yes - a bunch of powerful people do run the world ... unpowerful people do not run the world!

- but are THESE the people who run the world? - i think not.

some people who are powerful choose to create a spectacle ... on the other hand: some will use their power to (try to) remain anonymous

if you want to be spectacular then this is not the way ... if you choose to (try to) be anonymous then this is also not the way ... this is for a bunch of misfits.

I read a fascinating piece by Umberto Eco (Six Walks in the Fictional Woods) about conspiracy theories. Umberto Eco's best book - Focaults Pendulum - of course covers the topic of conspiracy theories in great depth. There's a fantastic line in it that which sums up the appeal of all conspiracy theories - "to the paranoid mind, everything signifies something"

The other half of the problem is people.

People KNOW what they should be doing. No end of relgions, philosophers, self-help books in airports -- they ALL say the same things. We hear the same messages day in and day out, read them in stories, see them acted out in front of us in movies.

But then when it comes down to a personal decision WE as individuals have to make -- we argue about it. Look for a more profitable short-term solution. Or, we stick to what is comfortable, or get to scared to do anything, etc., etc., etc.

WE make the world. Every one of us. Everyday. With every single action we take.

Make it a good one.
