This is a treaty, not a resolution, so it's inaccurate to say the US "abstained" on it. In fact, President Clinton signed it but it has never been put to a vote in the US Senate. There are various reasons why it probably wouldn't pass, but the death penalty for minors isn't one of them as the US Supreme Court forbade that punishment for those under 18 in 2005.

Again, I find it ironic that those on the liberal left can not see their own fate. As they whine for the rights of homosexuals, they embrace the acceptance of Muslims and their Sheria law.
