I speculate that if there were any foul play, it might be vanity.

Edit! Nice use of the 'Zah?'.

Very well, I'll take the affirmative. Ivanhoe has exhibited an uncanny ability in the past to ascertain exactly what the mods and Russ were thinking; he seems to have some cosmic source of information mere mortals like us are not ...[text shortened]... ted the mods were drunks we have no choice but to accept his Word.
I will refute your position using simple logic.

You assume that Ivanhoe is an oracle.
Ivanhoe, speaking as an oracle, has in the past claimed that if a user criticizes moderators in public, that user is in the wrong.
Your position is a public criticism of moderators.
Thus, your position is wrong.

My position, being the antithesis of yours, is thus correct.

Your logic is flawed.

A user may be wrong to criticize the mods in public, even though his position be correct. It is the public criticism that is wrong, not the substance of the statement.

Thus, Ivanhoe and I are wrong to say that the mods are usually drunk precisely because they are, in actuality, usually drunk.

I submit this argument is logically unassailable.

But you must concede that being a moderator would drive any decent fellow to drink.

Seems no matter how many episodes of Roseanne I force myself to watch, I still struggle to find that Pittsburg humour amusing! Only funny thing from there is Lemieux bankrupting the Penguins with his large salary only to then go on to buy the team. Alas, us simply folk always struggle to appreciate american humour. 😉

Um, Rosanne takes place at 714 Delaware Street, Lanford, Illinois.

While I realize that your being non-native to America might inhibit your
ability to distinguish amongst the various states, I assure you that Illinois
and Western Pennsylvania have little in common.

And, yes, Lemieux, while a fine player, is doing much more harm than
good. You won't find me arguing, but then again, I tend to find most
sports silly.

And, I assure you that other countries' humo(u)r can be equally puzzling
to non-natives.

Hehe, not really. I appreciate many forms of humour (and yes, like the word 'colour'😉, I spell it in international English 😉 British humour is rather well respected by many nations (as I'm not a British native and in many ways dislike Brits) I tend to be rather impartial in this matter I guess. Granted humour will be difficult to grasp if based on region specific knowledge, but that seldom is the case with US sitcoms designed to appeal to a broader spectrum.

As a rule of thumb (with exception), I believe if you require a sign to inform people when to laugh, it probably aint all that funny. I'd rate perhaps only Malcolm in the Middle and Seinfeld to be on par with some of funnier British shows. Heck, perhaps I just don't laugh easily enough ?
