Some of the threads lately have been about how the government should protect us from ourselves. I think since traumatic brain injuries due to falls way outnumber any other reason... we should all be forced to wear helmets 24/7... if the government truly cares about us.

And the cars....
And the planes...
And electricity...
And fire...
And plastic...
And metal...
And ooooh, let's not forget about water. Way too many people drown.

No. But it's a perfect example of how to use the "slippery slope" argument in every issue.

Weird timing for this one. I was having a catch with my 11 year old son tonight and he mis-judged the ball and it clocked him in the forehead. Scary for a minute but then he was fine. Was seeing stars. He now has a knot with an ice pack on it. It's called life and I'm sure he'll learn from it. That aside, if this thread is about helmet laws, I agree, people should be able to make their own decision. Seat belts are different. Not because they just save the drivers life but because they keep the driver in the seat during an emergency and allow him/her to have a chance to control the vehicle. If I'm on the other side of the road and a car is out of control, I would rather the person be in the driver seat and not thrown into the passenger seat and not be able to control the car.

Hey, as long as we're moving toward socialized medicine, it is just a matter of time before it will make sense that the government has the mandate to protect us from more and more such hazards via new restrictions.

I visited Cancun, Mexico several years ago, and from a bridge over a tidal river, every weekend scores of guys were out jumping from the bridge into the water. No way that happens in the "land of the free" without the police being all over it.

You must have caught them at bath time 🙂
The government would never interrupt a bath.

I agree with this in respect to cyclists....last night i was knocked off my bike by a careless car "im in my tin so im ruthless" driver...he didn't stop(the B*****D) and if i didn't have my helmet on then i would probably be dead now....so i want it to be law for all cyclists to wear helmets so we can all live if we are involved in an accident.😀

Nice idea, but it's not even worth trying seeing as how we'll be sold substandard helmets.
The poor will be the most affected of course as they'll buy cheap, substandard helmets in the belief that they will be protected, but the companies selling them will get away with it as the poor "chose" to have no money.

It is not the 'poor' (a fictitous body in contemporary Britain) who would fall for a scam like that but rather clowns like you,
