Personally I believe in freedom, personal responsibility and incentive.

If these three things are present then I am open to cough up 500 dollars if it also guarantees every innocent person housing, food and medical slash dental.

Murderers, rapists and thieves can all starve and die as far as I am concerned.

For a friend It’s hard to put figure on it but I could possibly afford I to 2 years income if I could pay it back over a reasonable amount of time. I have family for whom I have financial responsibility’s.
For a beloved pet maybe a couple of months income but I’d be doing that to save myself the distress of losing them rather than doing it for them.
Pets? I would make a contribution to a charity named by the pet’s owner, in honor of (ugh) the Pet, provided it is a human charity. When I was growing up, there was never any dog inside anyone’s house. Now all dogs are inside everyone’s house. That is not my thing by any stretch. I frankly don’t get it. This will, once again, get me in trouble with the libs!!😷🐩

@AverageJoe1

I have always had an inside dog, at least growing up and after I got married.

The government, SHOULD provide No Cost care to elderly. I just wanted to see this in print.

How could the govt do that? The govt has no money. If the govt, however, used MY money to provide such care, how will I be able to have money left to provide such care to my mom and dad? You probably didn’t think that through.

It also depends on the level of friendship.

I'm thinking of my best friend. Aside from his being my best friend, he's got a wife and 4 kids who'd be devastated to lose him. I'd mortgage my house and max out my credit cards to save his life. The number I'm thinking of that would be my limit comes to about a year's salary.

I'm thinking of a neighbor or friend with whom I'm not as close, but who I'd really love to save if I could. But I don't think I'd really risk my family's security. The number I'm thinking of to save him or her is more like 4-6 month's salary.

I'm thinking of someone with whom I'm acquainted but don't know very well. I'd be sad if he dies but I'd get over it. I'd still love to save him and I'll spend money I don't really need to do so, but I won't sacrifice my comfort for it. The number I'm thinking of is about a month's salary.

I'm thinking of essentially a total stranger, but whom I'm convinced my money would save. I'd pay some pay money to save him, but nothing that will hurt. I'll pay about what I'd pay to a charity I respect. The number I'm thinking of is about a day's salary.

@Duchess64

I have spent about a hundred bucks on a dog, either getting it fixed or for a diagnosis before putting it down.

No way do I have the money to spend more than that. Lots of people have more money than me.

@Duchess64
A buck two fifty.

I don’t know about the libs (or did you mean labs) but my missus would take the jaw right off anyone who even suggested that our dog should be evicted, in fact I’m pretty sure it would be your good self that ended up in the dog house 🐶

I gotta ask....when y’all have 10 or 16 couples over, do you put dog out back, so as to not have him underfoot, wandering in and out while the guests are engaged in discussions of the latest renderings of the Duchess?

No but then we are not members of a witches coven, and we definitely do not swing.

Every collection of data can have its outlier.

“Mean per capita medical spending in the last twelve months of life is high, reaching $80,000 in the United States, over $60,000 in Denmark and the Netherlands, and over $50,000 for Germany ( Exhibit 1 ).”
