That's fine and dandy but my post was simply addressing the "who gets to decide" tripe the right-wingers were spitting out, who kept implying this bill was meant to arbitrarily punish disputes they don't like. Since a lawful challenge must be completed, that's clearly not the case.

Whether you agree this law should be passed or not is not my concern. The issue is right- ...[text shortened]... ingers here are falsely claiming Dems want to use this arbitrarily stop disputes they disagree with.
The real issue is that a Democratic Governor proposed an unnecessary and probably unconstitutional restriction on speech as a way to continue to fixate public attention on the election deniers and the January 6th insurrection because he thinks it is good politics.

It may or may not be that, but it's poor governance.

There is no beginning to it you clown, books, people and even ideas have banned and burned for millennia.
The phrase your using incorrectly is simply the verbalisation of right wing pigs squealing because they cannot control who or what gets banned in this modern era because they have very little economic or political power.

I think probably, in the modern sense, cancel culture comes from the MeToo movement (insofar as society exacting accountability for offensive actions).

The great myth, though, is that cancel culture exists only on the left.

As a broader concept it's found in Homer and Shakespeare.

I never said there was. Tell that to Suzi you clown. She claimed an origin, not me...you clown. As if African slaves didn't experience cancel culture.

You are either against all censorship or none of it. You cannot have it both ways. You just like it when the partisan bias suits you. When it doesn't suit you hate it, but you let it out of pandora's box. You unwittingly let it screw over democrats too. Censorship doesn't respect party lines. You were warned of this from the beginning, but you hated Trump too much to oppose it. You condoned it at your own peril.

You let the bogeyman out and it is coming for the left. You cannot stop it now. You let a monster loose that you cannot control. The truth is your side was never in control of it and your side never will.

Galileo.

Suzi would have us believe the Roman Catholic Church were republicans before the republican party existed. She is projecting blame again. She has to blame republicans for everything.

Don't forget cancel culture on science. It was not only Galileo. Lysenkoism was a form of cancel culture and now it is happening again. The interpretation of science has increasingly become opinion determined by partisan bias. Democrats are now rejecting real science in favor of pseudoscience in the same way Stalin did.

Cancel culture is not confined to any political party. All people engage in it, especially people in power. They always try to shut people up that contradict their nonsense.

Well no, some things are rightly censored, like : child pornography, incitement to hatred, shouting fire in a packed theatre to name but a few.
I would definitely add anything that is claiming that vaccines are not effective against covid or that covid is no worse than the flu, because these things also do real harm in the real world.
For most things that are blatantly untrue but only harmful to society in a more abstract sense I think an advisory sticker explaining why and how we know that they are blatantly untrue would suffice, examples would be ‘The Big Lie, and 5G causes covid.
Your claim that everything or nothing should be censored is plain silly but it’s just an opinion so wouldn’t fall into any of these categories.

Those things are illegal.

Denying people ivermectin does real harm in the real world. Taking ivermectin is also legal, not illegal. Alleging election fraud is not illegal. It isn't confined to republicans either. How would you feel if your favorite democrat had the election stolen from him/her? You would feel differently, wouldn't you?

Didn't Hillary Clinton publicly state that Trump knows he is an illegitimate POTUS? That was after she conceded the election to Trump. Isn't that an example of "the big lie"?

Would what HRC said after she conceded the election be considered a lie and therefor illegal if you get your way?
