Photo of the school superintendent dressed up in blackface circa 2002-2008 shows up. Should the superintendent be fired, should the superintendent resign, or should the superintendent apologize and power through? Should there be concern for the treatment of students of color? Should teachers of color be concerned? Should everyone just "get a grip" and let the superintendent move on with their agenda?
I took my kid to the Tomofair in Rotterdam today. That’s a cosplay event.
So many people are dressed up as anime characters, Japanese people, my little ponies, etc. and nobody’s saying: “Yellow face!”
Or whatever.
If I love Jules in Pulp Fiction and I want to dress up as him for cosplay, Halloween, carnival or whatever, there is no way to pull it off without an afro wig, blacked up face and learning a bible passage off by heart.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
If I want to dress up as Nasuki (or however the hell it’s spelled) I’m not anime-facing, it’s not cultural appropriation and it’s not female-facing either.
Good grief. Everything is so bloody sensitive nowadays.
GET OVER IT!
@shavixmir saidI may dress up as an Indian, a Cherokee. Would it make a diff if I am a brave, or if I am a chief? What are the parameters? Next week, I will dress up as someone else that I am not, maybe an Eskimo, an Inuit. Or an Aborigine. Or a Scot, replete with a kilt. Like Shav, I don't get it.

@booger saidYou are the perfect example why people have become sensitive to the issue.
@shavixmir
Yes I agree.
Black people are too sensitive.
You are a racist scumbag and should be banned from this forum.
@shavixmir saidWould that accomplish anything?

@ironknee saidEven 10 years ago there wasn't the hysteria surrounding blackface that there is now. Context is everything, I suppose, but generally I'd say it is unjust to apply today's "standards" to an event that occurred when "standards" were different.

And I contend that it is still okay for a gringo to dress as a mariachi band member.
The PC Police accomplish nothing constructive aside from funneling votes to Republicans.
