Is internet "bullying" actually bullying if it's done to anonymous users?
Assuming harassments go only as far as interactions with unknown avatars on websites and never cross over into the real world, can any amount of mistreatment online, no matter how harsh, really be considered bullying if names faces or any other personal info is never revealed?
@vivify saidWhen it is done to an anonymous user, yes, that makes sense. It can get murky if it is very much targeted at a specific anonymous user who is known to be a child. But what you are saying is basically right.

What if something I say ends up hurting someone's feelings in real life? If I make comments with malicious intent that makes someone cry or get depressed or feel worse about their self worth, would you still not consider it bullying?
i.e...at school, at work, real life etc etc.
I don't consider it bullying when the person can just close a website to get away from it or block a user.

He said it's not really bullying if it's anonymous (which I do not believe, by the way - go to reddit and tell me no one is bullied). How can you read what he wrote and seriously believe he said the opposite?

Facebook or some other social media app mixed with school and such is a bad combination.
So it is very real for them and it can hurt.
The fact that they also don't remain anonymous doesn't help.
Now as far as attacking a username with an avatar and that's all we get...well no that is not bullying.

Your online persona is how you conduct a certain activity. For all intents and purposes it IS you. Would any harassment you receive in a store, or on a bus be dismissed because the harassers don't know who you are?
Being online affords you more tools to protect against harrassment but these tools might be unknown to the less tech savvy or simply unavailable on certain sites. It may have less impact than someone saying the same thing to your face (though it can be argued harrassers go farther online because they too are protected by anonymity and from consequences). That's a long way though to dismissing it completely
