I think it's a silly question- are we on the brink of WW3.
WW1 was called that because people hoped it would be the last time humans killed each other over land. Then there was another war- so what could they call it but WW2. Truth is humans have been warring since we could:
Till now we've used our full force, but we can't do that now without harming ourselves at the same time. I'd like to think also that humans have realised war solves nothing, but I don't think we're there yet.

If he doesn't and China's invasion of Taiwan doesn't use nukes then no I don't think WW3 will happen anytime soon.
Eventually it will happen but not in my lifetime.

@booger saidI don't think Putin will drop a nuke. He is more likely to drop all of them. One nuke wouldn't do any good. It would only win one battle and it would be a propaganda party for the west even though the USA dropped 2 nukes on Japan. It would only serve to demonize Russia. Russia would use almost every nuke they have to devastate nuclear armed NATO nations.
If Putin drops a nuke I think it will usher in a new era where dropping them becomes just another aspect of war. Normalization for lack of a better word.
