Anyhoo… Bond is as cool as fukk. And if he slaps a woman, she bloody well deserves it.

I don't think that was considered okay back then, the U.S. was incredibly religious. Bond also slept around with many women, which flew in the face of what was acceptable in the early 60's.

That scene was amazing because it's something men wished they could do; to be so macho, tough and appealing to women that they could do what Bond did in that scene. A regular joe from the 60's could never do that in real life.
Movie Bond personified a male archetype. The Americans had their own male archetypes, by modern standards equally repulsive. John Wayne played a sexist creep in dozens of films. Still, the Bond movies hold up surprisingly well, compared to the legions of copies: In Like Flint with James Coburn, Matt Helm with Dean Martin, etc. are utterly forgettable.

I don't find Bond repulsive at all. Why, because he slapped her ass? Because he told her to scamper off somewhere?

Bond, especially the 60's version, is a timeless icon.

Totally agree.

Obviously, someone acting like that in real life would be an obnoxious arse hole.
But, I love Darth Vader too… wouldn’t have him baby sit my bloody kid though, would I?

It’s a TV / film / literary character. It’s supposed to be over the top.

And, in real life, spies are generally boring people who nobody notices. And the intelligence community as a whole is rife with narcissists and paranoid nutjobs.

Horrible, horrible people.
