Picking up the bear makes perfect sense to me though. Especially since it was a fresh kill so the meat was still good. I have eaten bear meat and it tasted very good. One of the perks from marrying into a bear hunting family. There is a high demand for bear parts in China. If you found out the going prices you would likely think it is crazy to not pick up a freshly killed bear.
City slickers have a completely different way of thinking about animals. When I lived in the city people were upset that some guy killed a raccoon with a stick or something like that. He was in the garbage. I looked at my brother and we both thought it was crazy. We were from the country where killing raccoons was just what you had to do. I explained to these well meaning city slickers that raccoons will get in a chicken coop and slaughter chickens night after night if you don't kill them.
City slickers often feed raccoons like they are pets for amusement. Then you cannot get rid of them and become pests. City slickers don't see the vermin side of raccoons like I have. If they come for my chickens I will kill them!
