@sonhouse saidYou're how old sonhouse and are just now realizing that ads cost money?
SIXTEEN BILLION for all the political ads put on the air by Trump and Harris but also all the congressional runs and Senatorial campaigns, AG's, and the rest.
I didn't know we spent that much on ads, TV networks must LOVE it though.
@Ponderable saidI disagree.
So a hypothesis to debate would be:
Political ads cost heaps of money and won't change anyones mind.
They don’t spend that amount of money for nothing. It’s a proven fact that repeating a message works.
Obviously the adds won’t change hardcore supporters of any party. But there are loads of people in doubt. Well, enough anyway.
And the US system basically makes 7 or so swing states the determining factors on who wins the election or not. So, specifically in these states, it’s well worth while trying to repeat your message more than the opponent.
Getting rid of the electoral collage system should make elections cheaper. I think.
@sonhouse saidDid any of it come out of your bank account?

@Rajk999
It should have. There should be a limit on how much money can be spent on campaigns and paid by the government so we know just where the money comes from.
As it is now, some foreign actor trying to steer the election to one or the other can donate and we don't even know who or how much since SCOTUS has set the limit at infinite amount of money, no limit so here we have Musk giving some one hundred million for Trump and the like.
Some are not up front like Musk which should be illegal.
