I was reading this and have come to the conclusion that I no longer
care about good or bad people coming into this country illegally.
As far as I’m concern they all should be kicked out if they are here
illegally, if they are here legally and crimes are done by them, they
go too if convicted after they serve their time, their bodies can stay
if their crimes are so bad they get the death penalty. The real threats
we have with the issues like drugs coming up and down into this
country, the threat of terrorists, child molesters and so on just
make attempting to turn a blind eye to the good people an
impossibility to accept the risk

This is not saying that we are some how a better people that only
those people that come into this country from other countries do
those things, that is not true. Americans have our own people who
are child molesters, we have are own drug pushers, even our own
home grown terrorists, but they are the bane of our country, they
are the blemish to our existence, but we should not have to put
up with anyone else’s trouble makers. Jail them when they are
discovered, and send them to their country of origin.

I thought we already did this? if someone is here illegally and they get caught and convicted of a crime, I believe they serve time here and then we ship'em back where they came from.

Even if they don't commit a crime, but they're here illegally, and INS or whoever finds out, I thought the person still got shipped out.

If the poor, huddled masses want to come here, I don't see why they can't at least try to become legal residents of this country.

I fail to see what being a native american has to do with it--a 'native' is simply someone was born in a certain country, so I guess that makes me a 'native american', despite the (mis)use of the term to describe only american-born indians.

has anyone considered this solution to the immigration problem: open the borders completely. everyone can go where ever they want. Adam Smith, in the Wealth of Nations, says that for capitalism to work properly, labor should be free to move where the jobs are paying the most. this will also help combat terrorism- it will change what it means to be an American. besides- think of all the places you could go.

open the borders.

Yep, and if anyone comes to this country and wants to be apart of it
they are welcome in my opinion, as long as they do it legally.

LOL!

Anyway, I was under the impression our borders were pretty much open to everyone anyway. If you listen to news reports we've got people streaming in here like ants at a picnic.

Far be it for me to ruin a hysteria, but from the Foxnews article it seems a bit exaggerated to call this guy a "known sex offender". His one conviction, for "lewd behavior with a child" occurred 25 years ago. Lewd behavior can mean a host of things and a child could be anyone under 18. For all we know his crime was fondling a 17 year old breasts when he was 22 years old. That would be a crime, but not reason for the type of frenzy we have now. Apparently he was living with the mother and daughter and has taken the daughter with him to Mexico. That also is a crime, but it seems a bit premature to assume that he did so with the intent to sexually molest or otherwise harm the girl. Let us hope it is a tempest in a teapot.

What the case has to do with immigration policy is utterly unclear to me.

It's got to do with social security and economic sustainability, not sure exactly how it goes. But you shouldn't be able to fly here, throw out your ...[text shortened]... ertain critical fields like medicine and nuclear engineering. So they weren't screwing around.
I don't know anything about immigration laws either. It seems they are the price we pay, at least in some respects, for living in a free country.

The problem with people coming here and living off of the government, which means the tax money of you and I and everyone else, seems like it could be corrected. But I have yet to find many tasks our government performs efficiently. Well I do know one, collecting taxes. They've been doing a good job of that with me for years.

I thought our immigration policies and laws had been tightened quite a bit after 9/11 and since the Patriot Act? I guess we'll see how long the legs are on this particular story and how long it can run.

You.

It's sad and pathetic that some people on this site are so far gone in their irrational, personal vendettas that they attack me for making a post which is A) Completely factual; and B) Expressing the hope that the danger to a child is exaggerrated and she will come home unharmed. I guess Varg you can hope she will be raped and murdered to prove me wrong.

Personal vendettas?
Hardly - I don't know you at all except for a few posts I've read recently.
