Regarding the trans suggestion, that seems like a bad idea.

If evidence indicated that a male engaged in behavior associated with females, that doesn't necessarily mean the person *wanted* to be known as female. What a person does in private isn't the same is how they would like to be known publicly.

Unless there is clear evidence the person wanted to be known as tr ...[text shortened]... tten notes proven to belong to the deceased, sticking the facts like biological sex is the best bet.
