Macron refuses to form a left-wing government, stating that he believes doing so will immediately result in a no-confidence vote.

Question: Is this a valid reason not start a government by the party who won the most seats? Is there something I'm missing?

For some reason Macron's been in talks with Le Pen and this appears to me to have something to do with his decision. Can anyone shed some light here?

I thought Macron was centrist?

Maybe running against Le Pen made him look more left to me than he really was.

Yes. That is what makes him look centrist.

He’s to the right of centre on most issues.
