A statistic which details the number of Iraqis "missing or presumed dead" will no doubt be misinterpreted by some to say that these are the number of Iraqis killed by Americans unless it is specified that these are the people de ...[text shortened]... onsible for publishing such a statistic and should they be damned for not doing so? No.
I agree, the iraqi government should figure it out and then bring it to light. If the american forces do it, that'll just be one more reason to keep on relying on us. The trick isn't assigning responsibility, the trick is to take it upon themselves (the iraqis), grow, expand, and take control.

The Iraqi government would be in the best position to do it, but when it comes to responsibility it would be Americas... due to causing it through the invasion.
That is just not true. You can't blame every single missing iraqi on the americans because they invaded.

If one can't see already how chaotic the situation is over there, no statistic is going to help them.

If I were to bug a person, push them, harass them, until they commited a crime because they flipped out, it is their fault not mine.

It doesn't mean that I am a good person, but blood is not on my hands by any means.

I agree that people should see the situation as it really is. Unfortunately, in our little world of chess and debates, the scope is a bit too small. If the Iraqis feel like it is a serious enough grievance then they should do the research and publish it.

What in the hell are you on about?

I thought you were looking for statistics on the number of missing persons in Iraq (native or otherwise, historic or recent). How on Earth you could turn such a simple request into a soapbox for your meandering rants is... well... it's ridiculous. Sorry.
Sorry to interject but I thought that the following may be of interest.

A paper in this week's Lancet:

Mortality after the 2003 invasion of Iraq: a cross-sectional cluster sample survey. Burnham, Lafta and Roberts, Lancet, Vol 368. No. 9545. pp1421-1428.

shows that the US invasion has caused 655,000 deaths.
