Just because that is what he claimed doesn't mean the jury had to believe him.

I personally feel he was out looking for trouble. And he found it. He was prepared.

I think I read somewhere Perry admitted the gun was never pointed at him. He was also posting really aggressive stuff online before the incident. I understand he wanted to collect ears as trophies like Gangs of New York.
