"I'm staying at a wonderful hotel here in New York City. From its front steps, I can see all the way to the Russian Tea Room."

- Barack Obama, at the Alfred Smith dinner last Fall.

In an evening of great lines from McCain and Obama, that was one of the greatest.

That is a charming chuckle, well found!

However, my all-time favourite, amoung Obama’s comedic remarks, was when he stated: “My father served in World War II, and when he came home, he got the services that he needed.” (At the end of WWII, Obama’s father was only 10 years old.)

It ranks slightly above my former favourite comedy from HRC.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, born 1947, claimed she was: “named after Sir Edmund Hillary, after her mother read about his famous climb of Mount Everest.” (Sir Edmund did not make his historic climb until Hillary Clinton was 6 years of age.)

The fact that it's one word doesn't make it illiterate.
