Maybe we should design some kind of "least-force-necessary" stun gun (no, not tasers) that all school personnel could wear just in case.

Plus maybe each classroom could be equipped with a sleep switch that would release a mild but fast-acting neurotoxin.

Yes, I know these are ridiculous ideas. Got anything better?

Maybe we could automate this as we harden the schools by installing metal detectors throughout every school that would be able to distinguish between high concentrations of stationary metal (chair and table legs) and moving metal, for the sake of locking onto a target if needed and firing tranq darts out of the walls.

Of course I would suggest that metal wastepaper baskets, mop buckets, and cleaning carts be replaced with plastic ones for the sake of the housekeeping staff. We should also try to accommodate amputees with a lot of metal in their replacement limbs.

Unfortunately it might be difficult or impossible to safely harden the kitchen and cafeteria this way, which would have the side-effect of making those the softest target areas in the school.

Every school should have one of these on-campus:

These are NOT ridiculous ideas, Kev, I like them.

In thinking of such schemes to thwart such a culprit, remember to take $cost into consideration.

Children are wayward disease vectors with little utility to society.

What’s the problem?
What’s the cause of the problem?
How do you solve the cause of the problem?

Implement said solution:
Plan - Do - Check - Act.

It is not rocket science. It’s basic problem analysis and project driven problem solving.

From philosophical argumentation one-on-one: a drunk driver hits a pedestrian crossing the road. What element needs to be removed?
The law says: drunk driving.
But a sober driver could also hit the pedestrian whether he’s crossing the road or standing on the pavement.
The car needs to be removed to solve the cause of the problem.

Your phasers on stun is nothing more than fighting symptoms. You need to fix the cause of the problem. And you haven’t done a proper analysis.
I’ll give you a hint: guns are only part of the cause of the problem the US has with these shootings.

Or, we could ban assault weapons.

Seems the most logical option! But its too obvious. People prefer complicated.

@EoT: Yeh and if one dares to say "Guns don't kill, people do", they get loudly shouted down by the libs.

This is politics of a different kind here. In general, libs don't want people to be able to control their own lives, and hence, the private ownership of guns must go. That is what this is really all about, it has been going on since before the classroom shootings existed.

If its just all about people with guns killing people, then ask yourself the question, are people without guns able to kill people as easily as people with guns? And then by that logic if you want to slow down the rate at which people are killed, wouldn't removing readily available semi automatic rifles be a good start to limit the "people with guns" ability to kill other people???
