The thing is that the citizenry has to be tolerant for that to work. The good part is that it is, or should be, normal, now, so now the intolerant bigots are now the "outsiders" and that's why they're throwing their hissy fits. I say "tough". Maybe they'll finally see how unfair excluding others really is.
The bad part is that expecting them to grow up and be adults about it is maybe asking too much. Too bad. Maybe they can be the "outsiders" a little longer, then. See how they like it. Putting them in extended "timeout" is maybe a good thing. Maybe the rest of us can finally get things done.

Everyone do that, never complain, never explain, and everything will be fine. Bertrand Russell nailed it: Just deal with facts, and spread the love. The last one is difficult, hard as we try. It can be taken advantage of, on all levels, all the way to SCOTUS!!!!
