Although I agree with what's been said here, If Putin said staying in Iraq is pointless, he's right. Our presence there is only driving up oil prices, so the oil thing couldn't be the reason.

It's obviously a huge drain on our resources. Liberal or conservative, what's the use? Saving face as Americans? Our losses there don't even make the front page of the papers anymore.

"Bulletin 2022- US is STILL in Iraq, and now we've lost 200,000. And on to other news, Brittney Spears was caught drunk selling drugs to pre-schoolers. Video at 11"

Are there? Do they still work?

Yep. Do you claim they don't?

Actually, now that I am looking into it, Putin pretty much represents Russia. He's not a rogue dictator. Putin and Bush both seem pretty legit. The "imperialism" (throwing weight around, basically) comes from having a large region free from internal strife with their resources concentrated. The US, Russia, China, the EU...they're all the same thing. Big regions which work together and have a lot of weight to throw around as a result.

Compare them to Africa or the Middle East. Everyone's so busy squabbling with the guy across town that they have little stability, power or international influence. Mexico has that problem too despite being officially one country.

Could you imagine the power that a United States of Africa would hold? Say, bordered by the Pacific, Atlantic, and Sahara, with a Constitution and government like that of the USA? Man...

All this talk about checks is very depressing. I am still waiting for my check to come in for my job(I work for the gov't)? Its really taking its toll on me now, i feel out of whack, unstable and clumsy. The gov't should have at least send me a waiver or letter or something, suggesting it has in the past delivered upon the checks, or perhaps it is in the process of sending out checks. I have lost all hope, maybe i should not wait any longer for the check to come in. So to reduce the cost of living i am thinking about moving to Korea, Vietnam, maybe get some sun in the Persian gulf. I don't know guys what do you guys think? Do you guys think the gov't ran out of checks, or just never really had any checks? Maybe i am asking a little too much....

I think the war against Chechnya is a Mexican scrape-off.

The majority of wars are pointless, they normally come down to money / resources, but with the spin of "national interest" etc.

Russia is just as bad as the US and you have right pointed that out with relation to Chechnya, but can wars ever be stopped ?

Personally, I think they should have a country champ who fights for his country and if they win, they win the war......

Wasn't this a plot from a Classic Star Trek episode? As I recall, there were contrarians who didn't want to go along with the outcome and the whole social order broke down.
