@mott-the-hoople saidHypothetical case 1
LMFAO!...you poor fool.
A state governor owns a restaurant. Understandably, he likes to patronize his own establishment. But he also often arrives with an entourage of state senators, press secretary, members of the press, stenographers, security etc. Not only do the taxpayers pay for these banquets, but the governor also pockets the profit the restaurant makes on these banquets.
Hypothetical case 2
A mayor owns a car dealership. The city buys its fleet from the mayor's dealership (police and rescue vehicles, motorcade, etc.). The mayor pockets the profits from the sale of the city's fleet vehicles.
Hypothetical case 3
The Secretary of Defense is a major stakeholder in a firm which builds aircraft. The Secty of Defense awards contracts to said company and pockets the profits.
Is this right and proper?
Real case
The POTUS owns hotels and golf courses. He patronizes his own establishments, with an entourage, bills the taxpayer and pockets the profits.
Is this right and proper?

@no1marauder saidThe President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.
As I understand it, the clubs that have reopened to the public are in compliance with local regulations.
But for sheer chutzpah:
President Donald Trump, who in 2014 attacked Barack Obama for golfing during an Ebola outbreak that ultimately took the lives of two Americans, hit the links on Saturday as the number America deaths attributed to coronavirus neared 100,000 ...[text shortened]... ted States[/b], or any of them.
Article II, Section 7
Trump: an impeachable offense every day.

No.1Marauder - That all sounds fine, but as I posted here months ago: Has anything of subsidence been done about any of it? The short answer is "NO!" While lawyers file their briefs and chatter away in court, Donald Trump simply says F - YOU!! And does as he pleases, with little legal remedy, aside from a perhaps a future monetary fine and a clause stating he's not admitting guilt.
- So much for our system of checks and balances. 🙄

@mchill -
you're right, the checks and balances suck.
But Trump is not out of the woods yet with the violation of the emoluments clause. The big problem is the encredible amount of time it takes. Their still mitigating stuff done by FBI agents to Trump and staff 4 years ago! WHAT THE F!?
By the time they get around to settling Trump case one way or the other he will be gone from office.

@mchill saidThe Framers gave one remedy for such gross violations of the Constitution by Federal officials; they did not foresee a political party being as completely corrupt as the Republican Party has become. I guess that's one on them.

There is another remedy, of course, and hopefully the People will take advantage of it in November.

@no1marauder saidOh, please mister shill of the Democrat party.

Corruption...? They are still investigating the FBI actions for spying on Trump's campaign on behalf of the Democrats. are you kidding me? And how the amazing Hilary Clinton escaped prosecution for her gross misdeeds speaks for the corruption in your precious party and the FBI.
When FBI head, Comey, recommended to AG Loretta Lynch to drop charges against Hilary Clinton, her former workmate in the Obama administration, why didn't Lynch claim "conflict of interest" and call for a special prosecutor?
Corrupt.... as the day is long.

@earl-of-trumps saidRight wing false "whataboutisms" are common here, but not even you do not dispute that Trump is flagrantly violating a Constitutional provision, further enriching himself at the public's expense.

That he is allowed to do so because his political allies refuse to enforce the Constitution is unprecedented corruption in the US.

Come on, Mr. Shill for the Republican Party.
You actually believe their fairy tales?
Corrupt? This is laughable coming from the right.
Not only was Trump proven to have violated his oath of office, but the Senate voted to let him off the hook. Now THAT is corruption.
@no1marauder saidExactly.
