so what have they been doing for the past 50 years; working apart to address its longcomings??? at this rate, where will be be in the next 50 years?
"many good things around the world", the contary is true, of all the bad things in the world, the UN has a very high profile, and is set to continue in that manner. The problem is, when one gets entrenched, on ...[text shortened]... oy any of the current staff and use very very few of its current ideals or practices.
In fact, Bush has demonstrated that America is a threat to security.
Originally posted by Sambo69The UN has done a good job in places. But overall they aren't a very good orginazation in carrying out massive relief efforts. Partially this can be attributed to money, but some of it is the inefficency of the UN leaders to know who needs what. The oil for food program is a huge scandal that you hear very little about here in the states.
The concept of UN is right but the execution may have shortcomings. UN does many good things around the world. We should work together to address its shortcomings.
America imports around 60% of its oil.
As far as oil goes, America nakes more oil than anyone per day except Saudi Arabia, but we use a whole lot more than the #2 country on the list. Therefore, we import. However, Flexfuel may have an impact on gas prices. If enough Americans drive those cars, gas prices will go down. There's plenty of corn in the heartland, it'll do. The comment on drilling was very true. However, you left off Mexico, which has vast oil reserves off the Gulf of Mexico, they aren't too hard to get to for underwater drilling, and they are letting it sit there. Question for someone who might know international law. There is a Maritime Economic Zone that extends 200 miles from the coastline of the country right? Is there any way that if some of these reserves are within the American Zone, can we drill them? I'm just curious.

The UN is far better for world security than America is.
In fact, Bush has demonstrated that America is a threat to security.
like i said, start from scratch and build something that is not hamstrung when is comes to dealing with the worst dictators.
