Honest to goodness, I didn't spend any time parsing my list -- these popped into my head immediately:

God-fearing

Democrat:

This is certainly true enough, but it's hardly a point for inspiration. I can think of many things for what the Democratic Party has been in the past, but I'm not so sure they apply anymore. I would like to think that the Democrats are:
Forgive me, but I find that so hard to believe that you think so
poorly of the one group you have no thoughts at all of the other.

populist
liberal
compassionate

...but I'm just not sure that's true anymore.
There is not much difference between the Left/Lib/Democrats and the Right/(neo)Con/Republicans. Third party? We need a real SECOND party. Something like the Republican Party CLAIMED to be all those years, before the neoconservatives took over and totally trashed it. Something like that....only better. REAL constitutional government. Limited. Wiry. Checked and balanced. Of, by and for the People.
Ron Paul proposes we give ourselves a government described by our constitution. Eliminate most of the departments and most of the bureaucracy. Abandon the foreign policy which requires our military presence in almost every country on earth. The empire has failed. It was a bad idea in the first place, so we should LET it fail. The moment we step away from the track of globalism, corporatism and multiculturalism as a dogma will be the moment we begin to heal.
Political Correctness has almost destroyed us. We should return to a system which serves US, not the multinational corporations and banks.
Im not sure if Dr Paul would subscribe to what Ive said here, but I think the philosophy he propounds is in harmony with my own philosophy and maybe with yours too.
Google "Ron Paul". Go to ronpaul2008. Our country is in trouble and more of the Left-Right, Lib-(neo)Con, Dem-Repub propaganda, which gushes from the main media is not helping. We need to change course. Ron Paul is the best man Ive seen run for the presidency in my lifetime and possibly just in the nick of time.
Ron Paul is running as a Republican but he is not a "party hack". His voting record in congress is actually a delight to read. In the congress he is known as Dr No. He's never voted for an unconstitutional bill.
Sounds amazing, I know, but look for yourself. Im as cynical as anyone. Moreso. Im going to vote for this humble and genuine man who some have described as "founding father material".
The presidency is too important. It was never supposed to BE so important. The constitution provides for the power of govt to be divided, checked and balanced. Nothing like the absurd top-down, fascist despotism we have now.
None of the "name recognition" candidates have any intention to fix the mess we're in, but a serious man could do a lot of good in the presidency. It's exciting. His support is from the grass-roots.

I dont put my faith in politicians. I have some confidence that the philosophy espoused by Dr Paul is what the country needs to survive. It's that serious, IMO.
You sound like a reasonable person. Before you dismiss Paul, listen to some of his speeches. Listen to his speeches to congress. There are texts of some speeches at lewrockwell. You can hear some audio clips at gcnlive. Ron Paul is no kook. He's a thoughtful, principled and serious man.
Regarding your perception that Libertarians are off-center. That is almost funny, but look...what choices have we? The Dem-Repub paradigm is no choice at all. The choice between losing our sovereignty fast or slow. Not good enough. I do not blame those who seek another option. Do you?
