But I also know that the feds need no excuse to protect federal properties

I understand how there can be a lot of interesting questions about the division of Fedreal & State powers, but ultimately I think that it makes sense for the two forces to come together to stop rioting.
The fact that extremist Mayors on in Pacific Northwest allow this insanity to continue does not justify this sort of crazy behavior.
The rioting ought to be stopped.
Not to mention, it creates a public health crisis by increasing the likelihood of people contracting the deadliest pandemic of our lifetimes.

Putting the boot more firmly down on the necks of the People is generally the authoritarian, right wing response but it rarely works in the long run. IF you want protests supporting popular causes to end, you generally have to implement measures responsive to the People's demands. If you don't, the People will remove you from power one way or another.
