I find many people believe that people have the inalienable rights to both be fed and to reproduce. I think this is in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Man or whatever it's called.
To my mind this is a recipe for disaster. I know that sounds cold to some, but I can't imagine how this could work. This combination removes all natural barriers to reproduction like having to work to feed your kids. I can only see this combination, if implemented, leading to an ever growing underclass of people who live in poverty.
What do you all think?

For example, by "right to reproduce", I understand it to be that nobody can stop you if you (and your partner, obviously) decide to have children.

Article 16
1. Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family.
Article 25
1. Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
Originally posted by AThousandYoungWell I wouldn't vote for any politicians who proposed to curb my right to have children. Would you?

This move towards statism baffles the heck out of me. It's like screaming, "I'm a chiken, pluck me!!"

Originally posted by AThousandYoungThe move toward statism in that the state sticks its nose in your own private affairs and tries to micromanage your life, such as your reproductive tendencies. As for China, for years they would only allow one child per family. This type of micromanagment seems to appeal to you so that is why I suggested you move there.

Originally posted by AThousandYoungI endorse this effort to set an agenda or terms of reference for a successful and just society. But most countries just ignore it, so it's all moot really.
