I'd have loved to play D&D back then. Never did. My friends worked high tech and I had yet to make the shift. One worked at Wang (computer) and one worked at Raytheon. We'd get together and they talked D&D a lot lol.
When I finally got into high tech, mainframes were a thing of the past.
