Other than doing what some people have called "spamming" around X-Mas and New Year (whilst people in Iraq continue to suffer), I have increasing limited myself to posts on my own threads. However, the moderators have closed down some of those threads or banned me. It limits the choices when you can't even post to your own thread (which people can ignore if they like). Hey, if you can't handle me posting to my own thread then how are the Iraq people supposed to handle occupation ???

By the way, Bush is a liar and a war monger (see HTTP://rhp-ratings.blogspot.com). Bush and those who support him are a threat to the security of the world. Power = Responsibility.

*sigh* So I guess I'm wasting my time here.

Anyone actually want to debate this issue?

I do not think a ban on preaching, whether it be religious or secular, is realistic. Imagine the debates we would get about what when how and whether ..... you get the picture I guess.

Religious and secular preaching is an aspect to be looked at. Definitely.
Another is the basic attitude debaters have. Is it a basicly serious one ? Is it an attitude of willingness to gain knowledge about the subject or the debater's stances ? Is it an attitude to roll the intellectual muscles, the famous attempts to impress ? Is it an attitude to understand the opponent ? Is it an attitude of having fun at the expense of others ? Does the debater have an attitude of "I want his head on a silver plate, nothing less" ? Some debaters have an attitude of: You can say what you want but you won't get through, there is that wall and that wall stays intact" : The attitude of "I'm trying very hard not to understand you".
The last species of debaters I want to mention are those who are constantly explaining what they meant when they were explaining what their reaction was to the explanation the opponent gave to his initial reaction on their interpretation of his earlier claim. Formal logic usually is a firm and reliable weapon in these discussions. These debaters deserve a purple heart.

We all can recognise ourselves in some or even all of the above debater-types. Some types will appeal to you more then others, but still .......

Please be patient, our American friends haven't had their breakfast yet ....... and I never know what time it is down under. Such a debate can go on for days. You can take a break for a day, or maybe two, and see what people come up with.

I'd suggest that RHP create a pop-down list of debating categories, such as "Religion", "Politics", etc.

People could chose a category before starting a new thread that would be categorised as such. People could add a new category that would appear on the pop-down list in future.

Others could then review threads by category, filtering out Religion or my crap if they like.

This would benefit RHP as people may feel they get more out of the debating threads and therefore be more inclined to remain customers. The cost of customer retention is far cheaper than the cost of customer acquisition.

By the way, Bush is a liar and ...

You'd better post this in the "Site Ideas" forum.

By the way, Bush is not the only one. That is what makes politics so interesting

Ivanhoe, please don't encourage this troublemaking and site disruption. Russ decided about two weeks ago that that was not going to happen. See the recent Debate thread about whether Religion should have its own forum. It was clearly stated that Russ has no intention of separating it out from the rest of the debates. Why can't you just let the matter rest? Why do you encourage others to defy that decision? Don't you trust the site admins 100%?

I've alerted your post. This is the second time in 24 hours you have posted that profane, personal attack against Cribs. I don't want to see that in these forums, and I encourage others who feel the same to alert ivanhoe's post. Let us unite and let Robomod be our voice!

Cribs,

As you will probably have noticed your rehab program is not taking the direction it should take. You are clearly looking for trouble again. I know that is your hobby.
As you know I'm not exactly fussy about having a good and thorough fight.

But hey, don't start whining if you hurt yourself or if something happens that has happened to you before, right ?

Just like before Ivanhoe it will be the fault of others that he gets banned. I have alerted the mods to his "falling off the wagon" myself. After all, Cribs is my best Frienemy.

Mike

Ivanhoe,

Do you remember this total farse that he wrote?

God has put it on my heart to apologize for the unacceptable
actions that led to my well-warranted, temporary banishment
from the forums. Several personal and community-wide
apologies are in order.

First and foremost, I'm sorry for the vicious personal attack
that I mercilessly carried out upon pradtf. I said several
things that were simply untrue, in order to damage his
character and reputation. In one post, justly deleted by
Flash, I called him a gentleman, I called him an expert on
friendliness, and I asserted that he was a reliable resource for
righting wrongs and keeping the forum waters calm. Not
only do I retract these statements now, but I can honestly
say that I have seen no evidence that would even suggest
that they might be true, and I am truly sorry for making such
claims. In the end, I see that I have only scarred my own
reputation by doing this.

The second apology goes to Flash. It is now clear to me,
based on several people's prolific expounding on the subject,
that I was completely out of line in my polite requests to you to
explain your decision to me in terms that I could understand.
I see now that when you told me, "You personally attacked
another user," that not only was that assertion true, but it
was more explanation than I was even entitled to. Based on
many writings, I now see that the appropriate response would
have been to simply say to myself, "Well, Flash is a moderator,
and moderators are not to be questioned since they are
volunteers, and therefore I will meekly submit to his will to
silence me." I regret my poor decision, and I hope that you
accept my apology on behalf of all moderators. In the future,
I will "Take [my] lumps like a man," as one of your colleagues
has advised me to do.

Next, I feel an apology is in order to the community at large.
Over my many months as an active poster, I have attempted
to bring enlightenment, entertainment, and excitement to the
forums, using various approaches from logical analysis to
social parody. Had I known that the sole goal of the fourms
was to minimize the degree to which everybody is exposed
to challenging ideas, I would have remained a silent member
of the community, quietly making my moves and passively
observing the evolution of the threads. It is unfortunate that
during my period of lurking before I became a regular poster,
I formed a skewed view of the forums. That skewed view made
me think that the forums were not simply about eliminating
foreign ideas, but I now see more clearly. My apologies to
everyone whose brain was unduly engaged upon reading my
thought-provoking ideas.

I would like to close by saying thanks to my friends who
have supported me during my short exile. Several have been
the ears into which I have vented my frustration, some have
been my advocates defending whatever rights I still posess
despite my guilt, and at least one has even prayed to God for my
speedy return. I appreciate the few but enjoyable friendships
I have made here, and I hope that you will not abandon me
even though I have shamed and disgraced myself through
my unacceptable and ban-worthy actions.

With deep regrets of the past, and a hopeful outlook on the future,
Dr. Cribs

That letter is hilarious. I can't believe I had never seen that before. Thanks for the laugh, Rapalla. The letter shows a great flare for wit, sarcasm and eloquence -- something that should be embraced by the RHP community.
