I agree that there is a wage discrepancy in many professions, and in some professions women are definitely treated as second class. In the professions where this is true, it is very wrong and part of the reason why equal opportunity employment was instituted. I earn 50% more than my equally educated partner, and 15-25% less than my equally-educated male counterparts at work.
I've never been the dumpee in a relationship. While it is more cozy at night next to a warm adult-male body, I'm no more dependent on him than I am my dogs. I appreciate the companionship, but am not dependent on it.
