@Kilroy70
This seems to be the crux of the matter. I have said several times there has been a reduction in the average intelligence of humans around the world and maybe due to covid which has detrimental effects on our brains as well as lungs.
That is of course just my opinion but it explains a lot of the political strife going on around the world, ultrarightwingnuts coming out in the open plotting coup after coup all over the planet, it is not just limited to the US and Europe.
It is a world wide phenomena and I can only hope the lingering effects of covid related brain damage can heal itself. Maybe too late in some countries though.
Once a dictatorship takes over it is near impossible to shuck.
@kilroy70 saidSooo people who believe in Qanon theories and vote for trump, who they think won the 2020 election, are victims of the society that caused their stupidity?
@sonhouse
"Once a dictatorship takes over it is near impossible to shuck."
According to Bonhoeffer a dictatorship is nearly impossible to shuck using force, because stupidity is not the result of any physical problem.
It's a sociological problem.
So what do we do with these people and how can we tweak society in order to prevent future generations of victims
@sonhouse saidI agree and I'll add more violent too.

@kilroy70 saidDictatorships always fail.

It’s inherent in the power structure.
To retain absolute power you have to split decision making at lower levels (the span of control) so various authorities which govern the same processes have the same powers.
This keeps a balance, over which the dictator can preside.
However, inherent in this is that the competition which it brings forth, will always end up undermining the central control (attempting favouritism, if you will).
If a dictator doesn’t do this, the decentralised powers end up neutering him and become more powerful than the dictator.
@shavixmir
Communism always fails too.
And here come the commies saying communism hasn't happened yet 🙄
Would the stupids that are paying a pile of money for Trump's NFT grift fall into any category in this thread.
Especially after all the complaining that Biden's policies are threatening to put them out on the street.
Yet they seem to have no problem dishing out $99 for an NFT that makes fatboy Trump look like Superman Trump.
Definitely something worth calling stupid going on here !!
@mghrn55 saidDo you have an opinion about Bonhoeffer's theory?

He said force works (is effective) when opposing malicious people, but has no effect on stupid people. According to Bonhoeffer (the intended subject of this thread) stupid people can be easily manipulated by a malicious political entity.
Edit: I define a malicious political entity as one that seeks power only for itself, usually at the detriment of the People it claims to represent.
@kilroy70 saidCancel culture is just people using their purchasing power to not have to listen to people whose views they strongly disagree with.
@kevcvs57
"how can we tweak society in order to prevent future generations of victims"
We could start by ridding ourselves of the cancel culture mentality responsible for ruining the lives of those who don't agree with stupid people.
Corporate advertising has always cancelled views it felt would alienate its customers. How many liberal speakers have been invited to speak at CPAK or even at a rodeo.
You like cancel culture as long as it’s not you and your views that are being cancelled.
@kevcvs57 saidCancel culture is far more insidious than simply boycotting a business. I can boycott a business without seeking to destroy that business.

Cancel cultural actively seeks to destroy an individual's reputation and means of employment through legal channels.
Boycotts are like casting a vote (one vote per person). Those who engage in cancel culture aren't content to simply disagree with the people they hate, they actively try to destroy them. And there doesn't appear to be a limit as to how far they will go to shut someone up.
"You like cancel culture as long as it's not you and your views that are being canceled."
Oh great... another mind reader. 🙄
