It is truly sad how some people entertain this fantasy of self-sufficiency despite all evidence to the contrary - pigheadedly ignorant not only of the current state of their environment but similarly ignorant about history. We have a pro-business government (the libertarians lost the original argument back at the beginning of the 19th century) because it not only benefited business interests but also the citizens as a whole. For 30 years we have let the achievements of 150 years rot away because of whining misinformed children and the greedy rich. I hope you are old because there is rude awakening coming when everything collapses from this neglect.
thats not the same as providing "salad, meat, and bread".
And BTW, genius, "running it" doesn't put it on your table.

So where do you get your salad, meat, bread, gas, and water? Still sucking from the public services or do you have private sources?

There's not enough to shoot or enough land for growing crops to keep us all alive without collective action. When you're gone (as one day we all will be) don't you want your family to have a chance of survival? Do you care about your family? Do you care about the republic? (Republics only last as long as the citizens feel they are a family.) Old Ben's quote is even more true today than when he said it at the signing of the Declaration of Independence "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

I'll agree however, you don't have to care about any of that. You can say, "I'll begrudging give only what I'm made to give because I don't care about anyone but me and mine." Good thing the Founders didn't see it that way. Good thing my father's generation fought the Nazis and triumphed over the Depression. But none of those people would have done so with that me-and-mine attitude. I can't remember what they kept for themselves but I know they gave us so much and we are squandering every bit of it with selfish hubris and when we are done no one will remember us.

My place is at 7600ft, with a locked gate at the bottom, and I can hear things way before I see them.
I have the hole dug now for a basement under my cabin, I'll pour a gun safe into the basement wall. Solar power, back-up generator if need be.
My kids are about grown.
googled this The Circle of Towers, Wind River range in wyo....
I have survived in the mountains, took the national Outdoor Leadership class in lander where I grew up.
:-) but, you are right, there have to be some sacrifices made,, maybe internet?

Originally posted by Hugh GlassIt is not about your survival skills. It is about 350 million people. Is there something about Republicans that prevents them from thinking thru the effects of their fantasies? When my ancestors were walking this continent just to scratch out a living there was no place they did not touch. Can you imagine what more than 10 times that number of people will do? Obviously not. We all prosper here because of what we each contribute. Try out Somalia for a small taste of a place where that kind of cooperation has collapsed.
lol,, google the name HUGH GLASS
I walked all over in the Jim Bridger Wilderness area. Only because Glass did not kill him.

You should go ahead wearing out the s, o, m, a, l, i, keys on your keyboard, good show, as you were, we believe you.
