@mchill saidIreland is not connected to England...just saying.
JMHO - This is possible, but not likely. Despite their cultural differences, Scotland, Wales, and to a lesser extent, Ireland are still joined to England by the same land mass. Complete independence from England after centuries of unity would be as difficult as Texas becoming Independent from the US or Quebec breaking away from Canada.
@huckleberryhound saidI'm sure they must have some bridges in the north.

@divegeester saidProbably disappointed about China's half-baked revenge for the Opium Wars.
Why are you on about the British Empire again?
@ghost-of-a-duke saidLately I've had a notion about the Chaos Theory fad two or three decades ago and how Covid-19 has been a disruptive influence shaking things up, after which they might fall back together again in better ways.
First we were going off a cliff, now we're crumbling.
Back in reality, the Bank of England forecasts strong COVID recovery with biggest economic bounce-back since WWII.
Er, actually we have a bunch of disruptive tech and influences going on. May Heaven protect us from our own cleverness and brainstems.
My left-field prediction is that the British will invent their own distinctively cozy yet rockin' cyberpunk future.
The post that was quoted here has been removedI was primarily thinking about the British "softening up" of China with opium circa 1900, and the heroin problems in 1980s Britain. If the PRC were involved in that, it would of course be understandable.
My only connection with Wales (that I know of) is that I attended a reading from "October Light" by John Gardner in the late 70s.
@divegeester saidDammit! I thought the French invented tennis.
UK countries invented tennis
But thank you for confirming that the British are fascinated with balls.

The post that was quoted here has been removedThe Welsh are a million miles from wanting independence, Scotland is on a knife edge but as I type the SNP are not doing as well as they hoped.
Like most Brits I don’t really care if the UK remains a Unitarily governed space, London and the S.E of England will still be economically and politically dominant but I hope N.I is reunified with the Republic of Ireland ASAP.
@shavixmir saidOh yeah, Michael Bloomberg, the bastion of unbiased brexit reporting!

Yah... it’s all roses.
@kevin-eleven saidIt’s because we have massive ones!
thank you for confirming that the British are fascinated with balls.
