The black highlighted part, incidentally...
The leader of a large religious group (his only authority on the subject) giving his opinion on global warming (just a week after his most recent encyclical bashing sciences place in society) counts as something other than idealogical pressure?
I think the bigger question here is not global warming... there are ...[text shortened]... mework) that he should not. And that's from someone who technically is a roman catholic.
.... bashing sciences ? ..... You mean in "Spe Salvi" ? Where does he do so ? ( actual quotes please) ... and how do his remarks on global warming constitute "ideological pressure" ? ( .... I hope you are not trying to turn this thread into just another "Bashing The Pope and the RC Church" thread.)
He adressed some very relevant and importants aspects regarding the problem of global warning .... and moreover ... you agreed with him.
It seems you have to justify or "balance" this by attacking the Pope in some other field ..... and "en passant" questioning his "authority" .... Maybe you think it is bad for your image to agree with the Pope ? Agreeing with the Pope is not cool, right ?
agryson: "I think the bigger question here is not global warming... there are PLENTY of threads here for that, but moreso, what place does the pope, a religious leader have in trying to affect or influence the interpretation of science and the process of politics, particularly the latter.
I see ..... So you are NOT changing the subject here, you are simply determining it.
Why should't he comment on issues which are so important for humankind and add his observations and assessments to the debate?
agryson:" And that's from someone who technically is a roman catholic."
Please explain what you mean by that and how it does or how it should affect your assessment of what the Pope states in a contribution to the debate on global warming ? ... in other words: Why is it relevant to the subject of this thread ?
