There are doctors that have been paying over $100,000 per year for malpractice insurance for over a decade. It was a driving force in 2002 for legislation on the damage in jury awards (not suggesting that that is the correct solution -- merely suggestion that malpractice prices are a huge upfront cost for doctors and a huge factor in the pricing and availabilty of medical services).
