Lasting peace between long-time enemies actually results when circumstances change. From the Norman invasion in the eleventh-century to the Napoleonic Wars, England / Britain repeatedly engaged in conflict with France. There were generally sound geopolitical and strategic reasons for this during those centuries. There aren't any more, and so Britain hasn't ...[text shortened]... cific and concrete causes and motives. If those can be dealt with, then the conflict will end.
The treaty of Ghent ending the War of 1812 would most likely have been tossed out the window if the British had not been defeated at New Orleans.

The situation that most often changes is the prospects for victory, or the costs anticipated.

Doesn't make it so.

No attribution of fault, only that the "solution" wasn't for long.

Exactly. The Camp David accord didn't last either.

Hogwash. The Brits were happy to be rid of the war.

That's not an answer. And almost everyone who ever watched a McEnroe match knew the man was loony when the calls didn't go his way.

You're dogma has blinded you to reason, it is a fault in lots of people.... don't worry it can be cured.
Well, gee, thanks for the thoughtful counterargument.

There is no point in arguing with anyone when they will no put their beliefs to one side and be impartial.

You believe what you believe, I'm not here to try and convince you of anything... you must do that on you're own.

I walk on neither side of the divide but believe in what I see as right and just.

I think I'm quite open minded on this and most every other issue.

If you want to try to convince my I'm wrong, I'll listen to your arguments and consider them. If you dismiss my arguments as biased nonsense without giving any explanation at all, I will dismiss your view as unsubstantiated nonsense.

Frankly, I don't see that I have any choice in the matter on that front.
