I'm starting this thread as a side-branch to Mo the Ped. Obviously what is seen to happen with people like dirty old American/English men living in playboy mansions seems wrong... Originally posted by 7ate9Something can be a bad idea without being morally wrong. It is certainly imprudent for a healthy, emotionally mature 30 yr. old to look for an 18 yr. old mate. Have you spoken with any 18 yr. olds recently? They're barely people! What with the poor fashion sense and bad music. Seriously, though, you are only beginning to become at 18 the adult you will be.
I don't think it's right for huge age gaps like 80 & 20.

Like murder, speeding, sex with under-age children...

Speeding can be seen to be an objective threat and is down to the proeprty owners to set the conditions. Privately owned race tracks have no speed restrictions. No paralell can be drawn to two (or three, or more) consenting adults getting married.
Young people do not have the ability to yet make informed decisions, an age of consent must unfortunately be drawn in the sand. IMHO 20 years old is well over that line. Not a paralell.
There's a hole pile of things I don't think are 'right' but until it comes to the initiation of force or threats of force or fraud, it's none of mine or your business.

LOL, pretty much my thoughts... yet later in life it could/would be acceptable?
I think it would be morally wrong for a 30-year old men to go out specifically looking for an 18-year old women.
Originally posted by 7ate9No way! Let people do what they want. Who are you to tell people who they can and can't marry?
Well, that's an important question. You're spot on and kind of why I started this thread. There has to be a point where it is acceptable or not acceptable. If it's beyond socially accepted, 'right' then I guess you'd have to do the right thing and so no... or not. If it became law, then you'd have to say no or be a criminal.
I think laws should be made for ...[text shortened]... would become right.
[I just want to hear people's views on what would be acceptable]

Seems to love Beethoven, though. So maybe he is redeemable.

They have lived together for a number of years and seem quite happy.
He looks 'young' to many. No kids involved on either side.
I think, like the curvature of bananas (EU bureaucrats take note), this may be one of those things that, once the parties reach adulthood, does not call for regulation...
