And there is an excellent reason for that - so that NO ONE can EVER know who voted for what. It's not recorded. It's not in a database. It cannot be revealed by court order.
You sign THAT you voted, and a poll worker prompts you to sign. Otherwise, you would not. Or might not. Or might forget.
But should that invalidate your ballot? When you DID vote, but didn't sign THAT you voted? Let see what the judges rule... oh they say, that's ok.
And there you have it. NO cheating!

That is what happens when governments are in for roughly a decade their approval rating goes down. Many people who live in the states are talking about immigrating to Canada because they are not happy with Trump and the way half or a little better than half of those who voted for him.
