@Philokalia
You on the outside would not have seen the continuous corruption going on for years with Trump.
His motivation for the mail in vote is not to detect fraud, it is to stop the votes from getting in by the fact he installed a sycophant as post master general and that dude IMMEDIATELY fired 23 executives, removed sorting machines and started pulling the blue post boxes off of streets and charts clearly show the advent of his getting to be PMG was followed very quickly after that in a large slowdown of postal deliveries.
Trump has wanted to kill post office for YEARS. He says it should be making money, which it had till BUSH added a bit to the retirement, forcing the PO to post 70 years of retirement funds immediately which drove the formerly black into the red, losing money.
Now Trump weaponized that to say the PO should be made private.
But now Trump controls the PO and it is up in the air whether mail in votes will get there in time to be counted which is EXACTLY what Trump wants since he thinks 90 % of those votes would be democrat votes.
THAT is his real motivation for all this PO nonsense.
@suzianne saidI was not sure whether he distinguished the postal office specifically as the problem. I thought the idea was that an unprecedented amount of absentee voting itself could result in fraud happening due to the interference of local electoral commissions interacting with a postal office that just won't have a huge amount of accountability over what is happening with the votes, due to the general way of its design and the flooding of the system.
I'm a federal postal employee, and I am offended that the president of the United States can get away with claiming that my occupation, for which I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against enemies, foreign and domestic, allows any degree of fraud whatsoever. I'm especially offended by this because fraud is his middle name. He has a long h ...[text shortened]... . We took an oath that we believe in. Too bad he wipes his ass with his own oath every single day.
I do not think ti was an attack on your personal honor.
@sonhouse saidThere have been massive financial issues with the USPS for actually decades. I remember hearing about this in the 1990s.

Check out some of this:
Poor financial situation: USPS’s overall financial condition is deteriorating and unsustainable. USPS has lost $69 billion over the past 11 fiscal years—including $3.9 billion in fiscal year 2018. USPS’s total unfunded liabilities and debt ($143 billion at the end of fiscal year 2018) have grown to double its annual revenue.
Insufficient cost savings: The savings from USPS cost-reduction efforts have dwindled in recent years. Although USPS has stated that it will aggressively reduce costs within its control, its plans will not achieve the kind of savings necessary to significantly reduce current operating costs.
Unfavorable trends: USPS’s expenses are now growing faster than its revenues—partly due to rising compensation and benefits costs and continuing declines in the volume of First-Class Mail.

I can understand how this system needs to have a lot of reform.
Without knowing the specifics, it may be hard to criticize some of these reforms, and a bit too easy to speculate that they are occurring simply to commit fraud.
