All unions do, shavixmir, is protect the lazy and the incompetent, as well as drive up the cost of goods and services. Moreover, unions act like a kind of tax on the rest of us, however, there is never any sort of return benefit in the form of government spending on social services, roads, civic buildings, etc.

I am not living on the 'State', as commies like you would wish. Instead it benefits from my paying about £12,000 net in taxes every year with little to show for it. So just pipe down and be grateful.
I think we've already established, in one of your earlier incarnations, that you get benefits from the state.
So just pipe down and enjoy your free tv at our expense.

Or fat bloated Americans that own stock in corporations which drives the Corps to think of their stockholders first, maybe?

Originally posted by smw6869when the manufacture of american brand name jeans were shipped overseas in the 80's the rational would be that we would save money on clothing, which is an essential item (clothing in general), however, this was not the case. The prices stayed stagnent, and the corporations were making more money per pair of jeans, with no savings to the consumer.

Yes. All these little, fragmented trade unions simply don't have the power they need to contend with multi-national corporations.
We need One Big Union.
Where have I heard that before?

(That’s from memory, so it might not be exactly right.)
EDIT: The union that I belonged to, and later worked for, merged into the USW a few years ago. I’ve been out of it for some years, though, and so really can’t comment much. There have been a number of union mergers within the US, largely for economic reasons in the face of declining membership and a negative organizing environment. Merging across national boundaries seems more of a strategic move, in the face of capital often being more mobile internationally than labor; I suspect it will take some years to see if it will have any major impact on either organizing or collective bargaining.
