And they typically have a good calendar: they work nine months a year, have the winter break and can take the summer months off.

SANTA CRUZ -- Although 25 administrators and professors at UC Santa Cruz earned $200,000 or more in 2008, the campus has the lowest faculty salaries of all nine of the University of California's undergraduate campuses, according to salary information released recently by the university.

"Generally, people are sort of shocked by how much top administrators and the highest-paid faculty get paid," said Santa Cruz Councilman Mike Rotkin, a longtime lecturer at UCSC. "The person who runs the city of Santa Cruz doesn't make that much money."
