@metal-brain saidIf you thought military expenditure is bad now, wait until they go green, humvees with windmills attached to the roof, B2s powered by solar panels, about the greenest things they've got utilise nuke power i.e. subs and aircraft carriers. A guy walks up the gangway with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist versus multiple 12" lines flowing tons of heavy fuel oil, now we're talking, more please.
Why do most climate change activists condone the world's biggest polluter in the world?
https://insideclimatenews.org/news/18012022/military-carbon-emissions/
@Wajoma
Every time I bring it up the alarmists have nothing to say about it. They want to pretend something else is the problem. They want to blame it on their neighbor for driving a big SUV or something like that.
Just think of how much CO2 could be prevented from being emitted if the Ukraine war ended. But they want to keep throwing money at the problem which is in reality a CO2 emitting solution. Burn more fossil fuels to fight Russia. That forces Russia to burn more fossil fuels to fight back.
I guess I should not be surprised. These are the same people that thought invading Iraq was justified because they were told Iraq had WMDs. Nobody had more WMDs than the USA. So they rationalized it by saying it is okay if good guys have WMDs. It is bad guys that have WMDs that is the problem. But Iraq had no WMDs because they destroyed them.
Hypocrisy does not matter to them. The US military can pollute all they want. Biden does not even hide it. Biden made the world's biggest polluter exempt. Instead of acknowledging that they keep complaining about how we might go extinct or other such nonsense.
https://www.eenews.net/articles/military-exempt-from-biden-order-to-cut-federal-emissions/
Why don't they try to end wars instead of prolonging them? Not only are they wasting money destroying wealth, they are leaving the poor they pretend to care for suffering in poverty because they prefer to pollute the planet. That money sent to emit more CO2 into the atmosphere could have ended homelessness in the USA.
What are they thinking? Shav, Kev, sonhouse, suzi and div....why don't you support cutting spending to the Ukraine war? Why aren't you all complaining about building new military bases in Syria? Is CO2 a problem or not?
@metal-brain saidI totally oppose financing Ukraine in the war with russia.

I totally oppose the military industrial complex.
You really don’t pay attention, do you?

I am glad I changed your mind.
@metal-brain saidYou have never in your life changed anyone’s mind.
LOL!
I am glad I changed your mind.
My opinions on US military spending and “interventions” haven’t changed since 1983.
And that’s got very little to do with global warming. Which, although is a very real thing, doesn’t interest me in the least.
Unless we’re talking second phase Delta works, which is obviously an amazing long term plan.
@metal-brain saidYes. Obviously.
@shavixmir
Does that mean you are against funding the Ukraine war?
I still don't want Russia to win though.
I still read the news and realise Russia has been losing ground the last couple of weeks.
I still don't like the Ukraine or its leadership.
I still don't like NATO.
I still despise Putin.
However, fighting a proxy war in Ukraine is bolstering NATO, it's selling weapons and it's unlikely to have positive consequences in the long run.
So, I wouldn't fund them no.
I do agree with sanctioning Russia.
@shavixmir
Why do you support sanctioning Russia? I don't recall any sanctions against the US and UK when they invaded other countries. Should the USA be sanctioned for invading and occupying Syria?
https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/us-building-new-military-bases-in-syrias-oil-rich-area/1635657
Ukraine used to be part of the Russian Empire. Now it is part of the Western Empire, Are you expressing Empire favoritism?

And I have supported sanctioning them and Israeli (and Turkish) goods at various points.
Russia’s misguided invasion needs a slap down. Just like US invasions need them too.
The harder this current slap down, the stronger the voice will be when the next country invades another.
And for slap downs to be really effective, permanent security council membership (with 5 countries having an absolute veto) has to end.
Don’t for a second think your stupid fukking questioning antics is getting you anywhere.
I was opposing Pol Pot when the US and UK vetoed intervention, because the US didn’t like the Vietnam army.
Yes. I was reading John Pilger when I was younger than 10 and had parents in left-wing movements that would make you piss your pants.
I was fighting neo-nazis on the streets of London while your momma was still in her diapers.

@Wajoma
Lets see, B2 bomber, wingspan 170 odd feet. Hell, lets make it 170 by 170 feet, 28 thousand square feet. Say they have 100% solar cells, total about 5 megawatts or about 5000 horsepower.
I don't think a B2 would get very far on that much juice.
And of course, first, it is NOT 170 X 170 feet AND the best we can do now in terms of cell conversion percentage, about 30 odd percent, so now that 4 megs is more like 1.5 ish megs and the actual wing and body together is a LOT less than that.
So MAYBE those cells would generate a half megawatt of energy.
You got any MORE stupid comparisons to make?
@sonhouse saidSunstroke, it was STUPID, that was my POINT stupid.

Ijits think the can have a solar powered car, they need to tow around a trailer the size of a football field full of solar panels PANELS, and that's when the sun is SHINING,let's see you take that to a drag strip DUMBy.
@Wajoma
You have a weird idea of science. We know lithium ion batteries suck but newer chemistry is coming out, solid state batteries which are almost fire proof and work in heat and cold and BTW there ARE solar powered cars being engineered as we speak AND solar cells themselves are getting more and more efficient at converting light to electrons, now over 30% and my guess is in another ten years or so that number will be over 50%. Cars designed to be more streamlined than they are now and rolling resistance lower than ever combined with decent batteries, don't forget, say you live ten miles from your job, it gets charged up on weekend sun, full charge Monday morning, you drive to work that ten miles and it recharges all day long in the sun and OF COURSE we know it won't charge when there is no sun so you plug the dam thing into your house power and maybe it goes 100 miles or so, WAY more than enough charge to drive to work or go to the store.
Maybe they could get efficient enough for long trips but that is another story.
The gist of all that is you live in the past and neglect the development of science both of the car, streamlining and rolling resistance and battery technology where you are stuck in the mode of thinking only of the putrid batteries and solar cells of today.
This is one such development but of course you will say BS
https://lightyear.one/
The more research into batteries and more efficient solar cells and BTW there is another development in the labs now, SOLAR PAINT where the whole car is a big solar cell.
So live in the past, some of us look forward to such vehicles.
You also forget about the Australian Solar cell car races they have every year where really talented kids like MIT grads and such are developing ever better solar cars, where there are almost no batteries at all but manage to go all the way across Australia and I guess you would poo poo all that work too.
