What a bachelor's degree from a quality college gets is a certificate (diploma) that at best demonstrates the same intelligence and persistence and work ethic that instead of a degree, 4 years of successful employment in a grocery store or as a house painter would demonstrate. Lazy hiring practices screen out the latter from a chance to succeed.

You don't need the degree to be successful, especially if you open your own business.

My most successful sibling had no college. He started as an apprentice electrician and ended up having his own company with 11 trucks (that's how success is measured in certain trades.) Before that he was in the US navy and was trained as a ship's electrician. So he benefited from a government provided education. He also benefited from a booming local economy with lots of new housing being built. And a savvy wife who co-ran the business.
