There will never be absolute agreement between 5billion people.
As long as there are means to 'resolve' these differences by force, this will happen.
Civilisation is an oxymoron for sophisticated selfishness.

While I abhor terrorism, violence will never beat it.

You can't possibly get every terrorist and all you will do is incite them.

Invasions like Iraq will also breed more of them.

It reminds me of school play ground bullying and how it should be dealt with.

The answer has to be through an organisation representing all nations and, in the case of terrorists with a religious belief, could include a global broadcast of a unified declaration by religous leaders denouncing violence.

The answer has to include isolating the terrorists in such a way.

The answer has to include super powers taking positions that support rather than disempower the united organisation.

Particularily as the balance of power changes in the world, the answer also has to include super powers taking a humble position where each citizen must assume resposibility for researching the truth behind what their politicians and media would have them believe, for those politicians and media are understandably (though regretfully) driven by short term and financial interests.

The world wide web is one such way. Take a break from chess and browse the internet.

All well and good in theory. BUT, big BUT, what can you do when one nation is bigger than all of the others put together and completely disregards what anyone else has to say? Even when it comes down to things as 'trivial' as global warming.

the next time someone tells you the Coalition was not justified in invading Iraq, point them to this link, a 108-page rebuttal:

Wow Stang,
I never thought I'd say it but you're right.

One thing though. Can we please stop using the
word 'terrorist'. It frightens me.

to focus on the horror of war is an endless cycle.
it only leads to more war with different techniques - as you suggest.

the key is to break the cycle and bring peace.

how do we break the cycle and bring peace?

clearly western domination of the islamic countries is not a means to peace.

there must be a way ... we do not know it or see it now ... but it is worth striving for .. the potential humanitarian advantage is huge.

does anyone have any wild ideas?

It's also a story of finality.
I don't see why we can't carry on writing it as long as it
isn't blasphemous.
I mean if the bible is right then the day of reckoning
will come and we will all be held accountable for
our sins anyway so what have we got to lose??
