Defining center-right and center-left can be tricky and hazardous. Everyone wants to a centrist, even when they are radically off center.

JFK was arguably as much a right winger as Ronald Reagan, as defined by his taxing and spending policies, and his proclivity to use military force.

Bush 41 and Bush 43 were portrayed as right wingers, when their ...[text shortened]... rnment benefit they are going to get? Does anyone want to be the one who pays for that benefit?
Saying that the Bushes moved America to the left is hilarious- it gives the impression that you think: Spending= left

Everyone wants to a centrist

Try telling that to the voters on election day, especially during the primaries.

Perhaps everyone wants to appeal to centrists. But, by and large, Republican politicians in the US have little interest in painting themselves as centrists, especially the crop of Republicans who are running for senate in purple states this year such as Rand Paul, Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio and Sharon Angle.

These days, more Republicans want to be tea partiers than centrists. The only strong centrist republicans right now are in blue states such as Scott Brown and Mike Castle.

Hardly in ascendancy when he cannot gain a majority. what are you talking about? The British elections were a victory for the centre-left.

Center-right parties are often perceived as being more fiscally responsible, even though facts may often contradict this. This will get center-right parties some extra support when economic times are tough.
