I'm concluding that you are interested in German? If that is in fact what it is?

I personally do not know any other languages, but this is an international web site, and everyone speaks in english, when it is clear to me that most all of you know other languages. My question to debate over perhaps is why.😕
Originally posted by reader1107No I'm monolingual, wishing I wasn't , but you don't learn other languages by wishing! As far as school , I was a clown most of the time and the rest I just slept, once again wishing I hadn't because clowning and sleeping don't get you a good education. I am now paying obsene amounts of money for classes in college that I could have taken in highschool. In case you got lost in that entirely unnecessary explaination, I guess I could have just said No to the "did you take any in school question".🙂

occasionally, a non-English thread pops up on the General forum. a lot of the posts (but not all, especially initially) are computer translations.
don't recall seeing a non-English thread on Debates.
if you want to learn another language, you might try taking a class in your home country for starters, then go to another country for immersion. i think you learn a lot quicker if you're forced to drop your mother language.

No. Her first sentence is in German and you can go to that site to translate it. The second one was in Norwegian so I don't know what it said.
Es ist halt praktischer, wenn man sich verstehen kann. Men jeg kan skrive tysk eller norsk hvis du vil.
Originally posted by slimjimI've never heard of a high school not requiring a foreign language to graduate. The problem is that you can "learn" a language in high school but there's often no one to speak it with. I took four years of Spanish but didn't meet anyone who spoke the language until years later. I still haven't met anyone who speaks French or Russian (other languages I took at least a year of). Don't be ashamed because most of us can't afford to travel to a foreign country to practice language skills taught in school.

had a language requirement in my high school and took two years of spanish ... without immersion ... i've lost most of it ...
