Because, as the article points out, “women in Britain make just 1% less than men who have the same function and level at the same employer. In most European countries, the discrepancy is similarly small.” So hiring to the same job at the same company, pays men and women almost the same.
I knew you wouldn’t get the point. The point is right there in the quote: “the main problem today is not unequal pay for equal work, but whatever it is that leads women to be in lower-ranking jobs at lower-paying organizations.”

Can you point to studies that support the notion that women preferentially take lower paying jobs because the employer allows more time off to workers in those jobs, to the extent suggested by the salary differences we see?
Either prove that two people who do are hired on the same day with the same credentials are payed differently or stop bitching. If women take more time off, because they are more likely to be caretakers or they sacrifice certain income for jobs that appeal to them then they should be paid less.
