Obviously. I would nationalise the banking system.

People get dopamine rushes from buying things. Is a bank or credit card company, which makes money off people being in debt, abusing this fact?
And if so, is it not parasitic?
If you Nationalize the banks, or any business, there will be no competition (which keeps price down), so the government can charge what they want to. Brrrrrrrrrrrr. No more choice, Shav. Choice is one the hallmarks of our country. If you Nationalize (state ownership),say, hamburger shops, each has to charge the same price for a burger. Govt will LOVE that, to get more revenues. Here are the countries we would join up with. Shav is used to this type of arrangement,,,,,every one, be veeeeeeeerry careful!

I am off to get a hamburger. Let me see.. which one charges the least, they will get my business. Aha, McDonalds and Burger King are having a Burger War, Burger King has a special at $1.99, eighty cents less than McDonalds!!
I sure hope they don't nationalize gas stations. One Price For All.

There is a difference between nationalising restaurants and nationalising lending institutions.

Oh, really. The government can do anything it wants to, slanthead. Over 8000 restaurants in CUBA are nationalized!! Whew.
Be more constructive and explain how everyone is entitled to free housing. Maybe Fidel Castro was ahead of his time, all citizens have a cot to lay their heads.

I was not talking FIVE percent, I said THIRTY percent. In a year on 10K that is 3K. Just the interest runs it to 250 bucks a month. To pay off in one year would take about 830 bucks a month. So if the bank so generously says minimum payment is 200 a month, how long do you think it will take to pay off? Your deal was person to person, not BANK to person. So person to person, you can run out and skip paying and hide somewhere and what am I supposed to do about it? You do that to a bank and they hunt you down.

But sonhouse, overriding everything you just said, is the concept of choice. Note that the problem that the borrower gets into is by his own choice. He decides to not pay off his card every month. He would have zero interest. Anyone with problems of interest should not even have a charge card.
C’mon man. It is so simple. Happy Thanksgiving.!!
