Ideally, countries should be left to deal with their own affairs on their own, america should only take action if its national security is under direct threat from other countries. Surely, this can't be too hard to accomplish.

Furthermore, just imagine the amount of money they'd save.

There will always be nutcases around the world, you can't just take them all out.

How does this sound? The US stops building stuff in direct proportion to increased military spending in allies. Spread the power among NATO without taxes or gifts or massive power vaccuums.

We're in a massive alliance that requires our power projection for it's own defense to avoid a Maginot Line sort of situation.

I agree with you. Our current entanglement in the Middle East, since the 80's, has been under the pretense of "national security". I think it's clear that our country is more vulnerable because of our meddling, and not safer. Isn't that the point of security, to be safer?
