This isn't Trump's idea, it was introduced in 2015 before Trump's election. Secondly, the bill was killed thanks to conservatives like Tom Cotton and Jeff Sessions. The Bill was revived later and eventually passed thanks to *bi-partisan* efforts.

See the link. An earlier version of the same bill, the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act, was introduced two years before Trump took office. The First Step Act includes key parts of the SRCA.

you are conflating TWO separate acts.

Don't be dumb. The second act was directly adapted from the first, and key items from the from the First Step act were taken from the SRCA that preceded it. Again, see the link.

You can't give Trump credit for something he's not responsible for just because the name changed.
