The other post office, called GMail, agrees to never share (cough, cough -- and you would know?) your personal information to other companies. This post office opens and reads every single letter you drop into the box to be sent. The GMail post office gives you a garage for your letters as your mailbox.
Exactly - you never know. Also with Yahoo!

Anyway, you are misleading too. You should say that in the GMail post office all mail is opened by a robot, and neatly sealed again after. I don't think the KGB had such a robot, now did it?
And better a garage than a small thingie you have to empty every morning because the paperboy has just visited your house (if you go on holiday noone can send you mail anymore), and to which you have to walk the whole front garden since that way it is less stressing for the mailman.
I know I know, this analogy is ridiculous (or is it?), but yours isn't that serious either.

In the end, I'd rather not be put into certain advertising "groups" due to the content of my personal and private e-mail communications. Robot or not, having it done based on what city I live in or my gender is one thing, but based on thought process is another. You may feel safe with that information in the hands of a company like Google, but I don't feel they're necessarily that benign. Unfortunately, dollar signs have a tendency to blind even those with the best of intentions. This is just the first smallest pebble in a potential rock slide of privacy deterioration, in my opinion.
